My objection to a second procession which there was a precedent in the Colony was over-ruled. A group of men violated the terms of their permit, and on a Constable holding up his hand to prevent them zigzagging over the footways, as well as over the main road, the mob set upon him and shouted "we have the Registrar General's permission; we don't care for the Police." If we had not turned out the Police in strength on this occasion, we should probably have had a riot.
